Dreaming of a long soak in a hot bath in your garden under a starry sky - Perhaps with some good friends and a bottle or two of good wine?

Buying a spa will cost at least $ 3000, and probably many more. Then come heating bills. But you can build solar hot tub for less than $ 400 without the cost of heating at all. Free!
Make bath Solar powered hot is simple. You'll get a great piece for your garden, and it will work in any climate. The water is so hot that you'll need to mount a relief valve for safety!

A sheet of corrugated iron lay in a shallow wooden box is the base of the solar collector. Make the bottom of the box from a sheet of plywood ½ inch edges of 6 x 2 wood or other hands on, and line a sheet of one inch foam insulation.
CPVC pipe (3 / 4 inch will do) are placed and fixed on the undulations and connected in series allowing cold water to penetrate into the solar collector at the bottom and exit at the top. Use a bath independently between 150 and 500 gallons, depending on how many people will be there! If you can mount the solar collector at least one foot below the tub to permit thermo-siphon, you should be able to avoid mounting a pump. If it is not possible, you'll need one of about 150 GPH pump installed at the exit of the bathtub.

pipe runs should be as short as possible, and avoid sharp turns. Fitting a line filter near the outlet of the water bath will prevent the task of having to cleaning the tub from time to time. Finally, we must adjust the intake valves and outlet flow control as well as a safety valve to release the excess pressure in the system.
Once you have tested the tank for solar hot leaks to isolate as much as possible - all pipes, walls outside of the bathtub, the bathtub and cover (need to reduce heat loss at night).

The solar collector must be positioned correctly. In northern latitudes it up facing south, or within 10 degrees of it, and slope between 15 and 30 degrees horizontally. Also you should tilt slightly the length of solar collectors to enhance the upward flow of water in the collector pipes.
What time can we expect to take to the heating of the solar hot water bath? Depending on where you live it could take up to two days to reach a comfortable 110 degrees the first time. Once there, however, you find Your main problem will be cooling the water rather than heating!
