Suniva makes more efficient solar panel!
Suniva Inc., a startup company operating from solar technology incubator in Atlanta who says he can draw more energy from a single solar panel than any competitor currently in operation, announced construction of a manufacturing plant 75 million dollars in Gwinnett's Technology Park recently.
The plant - the first time in the state - Employ about 100 to start, and have the ability to produce enough solar cells to power 10,000 homes, according to CEO John Baumstark Suniva. In recent years, that capacity will triple.
The technology of solar cells based on the work of Professor Ajeet Rohatgi Georgia Tech, director of the University School Centre of Excellence for Photovoltaic Research and Education. It is innovation that will benefit Rohatgi on Suniva cheaper manufacturing costs, which corresponds to more kilowatt solar Buck. Rohatgi is the founder and CTO Suniva.
Both Gwinnett County and the State contribute $ 10 million in incentives, about 35 percent of this form of state sales tax on manufacturing equipment deferred. Another party represents taxes that have been evaluated by the school board of the county and the city of Norcross. The remainder represents a gradual approach, reduction of five years on personal property taxes on equipment.
Because the technology is based on research conducted at Georgia Rohatgi Tech, the university retains a minority stake in Suniva and rights to certain charges. Although Suniva expects to be profitable, because the cost of solar power installed is two to four times that Americans pay for fossil fuel based energy, Suniva and said he could reduce this disparity, well before the federal government's objective (parity by 2015) is reached.
Before that, they see profit in the fact that many Americans, faced with the reality of global warming, are ready to pay twice as much to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, such as the installation of solar and renewable clean energy.
Beyond Suniva executives see also opportunities in Spain, Germany and South Korea, where government incentives to be profitable to sell the surplus solar energy to public service.
The two leaders, and Baumstark Rohatgi, are surprised by the speed at which plans transformed into reality, including the company collects 50 million dollars in a few months. For the future, however, projects Baumstark $ 100 worth of revenue in 2009, and billions in a decade.
The projections do not seem too optimistic. On June 18, Suniva announced a four-year agreement to provide $ 500 million Solon AG, one of Europe's largest manufacturers of solar modules and a provider on a commercial scale for large solar energy installations.
