Is solar energy in Alaska feasible?
We plan to spend about thirty miles south of Fairbanks in a few years. Our dream is to build a really cool slow Perma-culture composed ... include the production of our own ethanol etc. and go as green as we can. I know that if you have solar, you can sell excess electricity to the power of the company. I wonder So with all that sunlight to those six months of the summer, is it possible to produce enough surplus energy ... so to have sufficient credit with the energy company that can be used during the winter months when there is little sunshine. I wonder if deep down they could produce enough energy to raise the money to purchase the panels and all to a value of money.
Fairbanks is up there. Yes, summer days will be long, but since the sun will be almost a cirlce in the sky, you want a tracker active otherwise, the angle of the sun was about to change dramatically during the day, sacrificing power. whether it pays for itself over time depends on your electric rates. Fairbanks is expensive?
