How sustainable are solar panels in space?
I thought that if we create a large chain or a group of solar panels we could get massive amounts of electricity for our country. So I wonder how a solar panel in space, they are better than them on the ground or for worse? (A life of how long could it last in the area before losing their functionality would be too great.)
They work very well. The total radiant energy (the sun) is about 1200 watts per square meter and most satellites have a sort of solar panels to generate electricity they need. Their design life is the order of hundreds of years. The problem is to do all this emergency power to the Earth. Doug
