Personally, I wish we would do something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten_salt_reactor We could quickly close all the coal, burn all the existing nuclear waste, plutonium and decommissioned weapons material. reactors Light water is really bad design. They were created for / economic reasons, political, and not on scientific merit. There are several viable replacement models of reactors and other nuclear fuel cycles, any of which is better than reactors light water. But when was the last time something was done in this country based on scientific merit, the long-term goals and for the benefit of everyone? I think a sort of resurgence is inevitable given the growth in energy demand and concerns on climate change. If in 10 or 20 years the warming and the negative effects of speed you can even see an emergency program. But as has been pointed out, if renewable energy be cheaper and easier then maybe we will have a program of emergency there. We can only hope.
