I need a switch to turn off a water pump at night?

I have a water pump to solar energy is connected to a battery allowing it to operate during cloud cover or at night. I do not want to run after dark and need a switch that I can put in line with the pump will stop it. I have two options I can think of, the first being a real sensitive light switch or relay that cuts power to the pump system's battery when it is dark. The other option is that the battery compartment / Control has a light sensor that turns on some low voltage and then the voltage, instead of LED driving, switch off my the pump.

Your second example is more complicated way to do a simple job. Just use a light sensing relay. .
