. Why are people so ignorant about the safety of nuclear power?
I always hear the "nuclear power is very dangerous "argument, and I realize every time people hear the word scary" nuclear ", the think big explosions bad. Did you know that the greatest nuclear disaster in U.S. history (there were only two), the incident at Three Mile Island happened very near a crowded city. Deaths ....... ZERO. Injuries ....... ONE. Now consider how many thousands of people die every years of coal mining, drilling, hell there died of the introduction of solar panels and the roof from falling. Power plants are safe, pollution much less (and if they do properly dispose of waste), and can drive the hell out of the country (almost 30% of the power of the United States already comes from nuclear energy). So why most people are so ignorant stigma against this method of energy production? http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/fact-sheets/3mile-isle.html
There are many reasons for the irrational fear of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy was first introduced to the public in the form of nuclear weapons, if the first experience with gasoline was napalm, maybe less people travel by car. There are also people who have an interest in keeping the American public ignorant and frightened. The Three Mile Island "disaster" to hurt anyone and is always referred to every day, more than 30 years later, the coal from the air pollution from statistically plants kills thousands each year, killing more mining accidents, the explosion of natural gas Kleen where people were killed fades and injured earlier this year in the background. People are afraid to make the decision to build more fossil fuel, not nuclear based on the perceived risk, while the real people continue to die.
